Raza Obrera was founded in 1996 in the Tierra Caliente region of Aguililla, Michoacán, Mexico. The group began its career in the Regional Mexican music genre with its founding members: José Luis Arroyo, director, drummer, and first and second voice; and José Luis Horta, accordionist and lead vocalist. They were later joined by a new generation of musicians: Gustavo Farías on vihuela, lead vocals, and backing vocals; Jairo Farías on keyboards and percussion; Emmanuel Ortega on harp; and Nelson Rivas on electric bass.

Throughout their 20-year career, Raza Obrera recorded 18 albums, earning five Gold Records and four Platinum Records. The group is also responsible for the musical selection and arrangements of all of its songs.

The name Raza Obrera represents a tribute to the people who have supported their music and attended their dances throughout the years. It is an honor for the group to carry the name Raza Obrera and represent hardworking people who struggle and persevere in the United States—people who came from different countries in search of a better life. These are people who have faced hardship and endured the pain of being far from their homeland. Through their music, Raza Obrera strives to bring them joy, energy, and a great atmosphere.

Raza Obrera stands out among other Regional Mexican groups for the energy and originality of its music. The joyful and explosive character of their sound has undoubtedly become the group's signature. Their musical roots are deeply grounded in the distinctive use of harp, bass, drums, vihuela, and accordion.

Raza Obrera is currently working on its newest production, which will become their 19th album. The group has given fans a preview of a new song, “El de los Huarachitos,” which remains true to their signature style.
